Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, located in the serene town of Oakham, Massachusetts, is a premier destination for families seeking an immersive outdoor experience without sacrificing modern comforts. Twice awarded the National Large Park of the Year Award, this resort has established itself as one of the top camping facilities in the country. Nestled under towering pines and situated along the shores of the beautiful 70-acre Lake Dean, Pine Acres provides a picturesque backdrop for creating lasting family memories. Whether you are an experienced RVer or a first-time camper looking for a cozy cabin, the resort offers a diverse range of accommodations tailored to every style of adventure.

The resort’s philosophy centers on bringing families and the outdoors together. As a privately owned, second-generation family business, Pine Acres emphasizes a "home away from home" atmosphere where guest service is paramount. The sprawling grounds are well-maintained, blending the rugged beauty of the Massachusetts forest with high-end resort amenities. It is a place where traditions are born, from roasting marshmallows over a crackling fire to participating in organized weekend activities that keep children engaged and parents relaxed. For Massachusetts residents, it offers a world-class vacation experience right in their own backyard, providing the perfect balance of recreation and relaxation.

Accessibility and location are key highlights for Pine Acres. Situated at 203 Bechan Road in Oakham, the resort is conveniently located in Central Massachusetts, making it an easy drive from major hubs like Worcester and Springfield. The property is designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and seating areas throughout the main facilities. For those traveling with large recreation vehicles, the resort is "big-rig friendly," offering spacious sites and wide, paved roads that are also ideal for kids to ride bikes or scooters. Free on-site parking is available, and the resort’s layout ensures that most major amenities are within a comfortable walking distance of the central camping areas.

The services offered at Pine Acres Family Camping Resort are comprehensive, ensuring that guests have everything they need for a stress-free stay. The resort functions as a full-service destination, meaning you rarely need to leave the property for essentials. From high-speed Wi-Fi to a dedicated country store, the onsite services are designed to cater to the modern camper’s requirements while maintaining the authentic charm of a woodland retreat.

The features and highlights of Pine Acres are what truly set it apart as a "resort" rather than just a campground. The focal point is Lake Dean, where guests can enjoy a variety of water-based activities. The resort also boasts an extensive recreation program that changes weekly, featuring themed weekends and daily scheduled events. For children, the resort is a virtual playground, offering everything from a splash pad to a gem mining sluice, while adults can enjoy the quieter side of the pines or the adult-only hot tub.

  • Lakeside swimming beach and a separate dedicated pet beach for four-legged family members.
  • Heated resort swimming pool and a children’s splash park with interactive water features.

Contacting the resort for reservations or inquiries is straightforward. The office staff is knowledgeable about the local area and can provide specific directions, which is often recommended over relying solely on GPS due to some low-hanging trees on rural state roads. Given the resort's popularity, especially during peak summer months and themed weekends, pre-registration for visitors is required at least 48 hours in advance.

What is worth choosing when it comes to Pine Acres is the unparalleled variety of activities available for children. It is worth choosing specifically if you are looking for a vacation where your kids will never be bored; the combination of the lake, the pool, the arcade, and the daily scheduled crafts and games ensures a high-energy, fun-filled environment. For those who own a dog, the pet-friendly infrastructure—including the rare amenity of a pet beach—makes it a top-tier choice for families who don't want to leave their furry friends behind. The level of maintenance and the "five-star" commitment to cleanliness in the public areas often justify the premium pricing associated with the resort.

Additionally, the lakeside sites are highly recommended for those seeking a more tranquil and scenic experience. Waking up to a view of Lake Dean and having a private dock or beach access right at your site provides a level of luxury that is difficult to find elsewhere in the region. While the resort can be vibrant and busy, the natural setting among the pines offers enough space to find your own quiet corner. For a comprehensive family getaway that combines the best of traditional camping with the perks of a modern vacation resort, Pine Acres Family Camping Resort remains a standout choice in Central Massachusetts.

I had high expectations for Pine Acres Resort, and while there were some positives, overall I left disappointed. The good:The camping area is very well maintained, spacious, and well organized. Everything was kept clean, and I really enjoyed the Friday/ Sunday activities—they were fun and a great touch for families. The bad:The pool is far too small for the size of the resort. In the mornings, the lake is in the shadow and very cold, so most guests head to the pool, making it overcrowded. By the afternoon, the pool area also had an unpleasant smell. Our cabin (#68, a full-service cabin) was poorly maintained. The first two days were very hot, but we couldn’t use the AC because it smelled strongly of humidity and mold. The kitchen cabin also had an overwhelming mold smell—so strong that we chose not to use anything inside and instead bought everything we needed. The cabin didn’t have any mosquito screens, so if we kept the doors open, flies would immediately get inside, making it very difficult to keep food safe.Unfortunately, the last two days it rained, and since we couldn’t use the AC or comfortably stay outside, we ended up leaving two days early.Overall, while I loved the outdoor spaces and activities, the cabin experience was very disappointing. This could be a wonderful resort if they properly maintained their cabins and improved the pool situation.

Plenty of things to do daily for kids including biking, playing in the sand at the beach, using the playgrounds, pool/splashpad, jump pad and different daily activities. That being said some things are on a schedule so keep an eye out. The cabins are small which is to be expected with very soft beds with no edge support so you feel as if you will fall out. The upper loft is only 2-3 feet high so I wouldn't recommend anyone sleep up there or else end up with a bruised noggin. The food you can order is very good. Watch out for pine pitch, our cabin had it all over the deck and railings. Overall a decent way to spend 3 days, wouldn't want to do a full week.

My family will most definitely be returning to Pine Acres in the future. With beautiful views, plenty of amenities for kids and an incredibly friendly staff, this place is such a win. Mind you, it is a family resort, but it isn’t routy or crazy. It’s a perfect blend of family fun and relaxation so ANYONE camping can relax and feel at ease.

Stayed 11yrs ago and it was amazing. We were so close to the water and had our own dock so for my sons 1st vacation I wanted to come back. This time I rented a premium waterfront cabin. It was not on the water. We couldn't even see the water unless we went to the back of the cabin and looked through a ton of trees then we could maybe see a glimpse. Our dock was down a hill and then a set of stairs, all for it to be shared with another cabin. It was covered in spiders so my son wouldnt even go near it. Waterfront is not waterfront. False advertising all the way. Dont waste your money on a cabin. The staff was friendly. My son loved the minigolf and the Arcade, including the arcade staff.
