Ponderosa Campground Introduce
Finding the perfect home base for a Jersey Shore vacation often leads travelers to the heart of Cape May County. Ponderosa Campground, located in Cape May Court House, offers a distinct outdoor lodging experience tailored for those who prioritize a quiet atmosphere and convenient access to some of the state’s finest beaches. For New Jersey residents and visitors alike, this campground serves as a practical alternative to expensive beachfront hotels, providing a rustic yet functional setting for families looking to enjoy the coastal lifestyle without the hustle and bustle of the boardwalks.
Ponderosa Campground is specifically designed for campers who appreciate the simplicity of traditional camping combined with the comfort of cabin living. Unlike many high-traffic resorts that focus on constant programmed entertainment, this facility prides itself on providing a serene environment. It is a place where the sound of the wind through the trees takes precedence over loudspeakers and organized games. This makes it an ideal choice for seasoned campers who prefer to create their own fun or for those who plan to spend the majority of their daylight hours exploring the nearby coastal towns and natural preserves.
The location of Ponderosa Campground is one of its most significant advantages. Situated in Cape May Court House, it places guests just minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean. Its proximity to major thoroughfares like Avalon Boulevard means that you can go from your cabin porch to the sandy shores of Avalon or Sea Isle City in a very short drive. This strategic placement allows guests to enjoy the premium amenities of the Jersey Shore's upscale beach communities while retreating to a more affordable and secluded wooded setting at night.
Accessibility is a key factor for local travelers. The campground is easily reachable from the Garden State Parkway, making it a convenient weekend getaway for residents of Northern and Central New Jersey. Once on-site, the layout of the park is straightforward, designed to allow for easy navigation whether you are arriving with a vehicle full of beach gear or settling in for a long-term stay. The surrounding area of Cape May Court House also provides essential services including grocery stores, local pharmacies, and a variety of dining options, ensuring that guests have everything they need within a five-mile radius.
The services offered at Ponderosa Campground focus on the essentials of a comfortable outdoor stay. The management emphasizes a "back-to-basics" philosophy while ensuring that modern necessities like climate control and sanitation are addressed within their rental units. The following services are available to guests:
- Professional cabin rental management with various unit sizes available.
- On-site staff assistance for check-in and local area information.
- Maintenance services to ensure all cabin appliances, such as refrigerators and microwaves, are in working order.
- Regular cleaning and upkeep of the shared facilities and common grounds.
- Pet-friendly interactions at the designated onsite farm area.
- Secure gated access to ensure a quiet and private environment for all registered guests.
What sets Ponderosa Campground apart from other local sites are the specific features integrated into the property. While it avoids the "big resort" feel, it offers unique highlights that appeal to children and adults alike. One of the most talked-about features is the Little Hooves Farm, an onsite attraction where guests can visit and interact with animals. This provides a charming, educational experience for younger children that is rarely found in standard coastal campgrounds. Additionally, the cabin configurations are a major draw, especially for those who are not interested in traditional tent camping or lack an RV.
Key highlights of the facility include:
- Premier Cabin rentals equipped with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and kitchenettes.
- Little Hooves Farm located directly onsite for guest enjoyment.
- A refreshing outdoor swimming pool for cooling off after a day at the beach.
- Close proximity to Avalon, Sea Isle City, and the historic attractions of Cape May.
- A quiet, wooded environment that prioritizes relaxation and minimal noise pollution.
- Efficient cabin amenities including microwaves and small refrigerators for meal preparation.
For those planning a visit or seeking more information regarding availability and seasonal rates, the campground can be reached through their main office. The staff is available to answer questions regarding cabin specifications and the best routes to take from various points in New Jersey.

When deciding where to stay in Cape May County, Ponderosa Campground is worth choosing for several specific reasons. First and foremost is the value proposition for families on a budget. The Jersey Shore can be notoriously expensive during the peak summer months, and Ponderosa provides a way to access the region's best features without the high cost of a hotel suite. The availability of cabins with full bathrooms is a significant "pro" for families who want the camping experience without the inconvenience of using public bathhouses.
Furthermore, the campground is worth choosing if you value peace and quiet over scheduled activities. While other campgrounds might have loud music, hayrides, and constant foot traffic, Ponderosa offers a more mature and relaxed atmosphere. It is a place where you can truly unplug. The presence of the General Manager, Tina, and her dedicated team ensures that guests feel welcomed and that the grounds remain well-maintained. For those who want a clean, simple, and exceptionally well-located spot to rest between beach excursions, Ponderosa Campground stands as a reliable and classic choice in the New Jersey camping landscape.
Finally, the proximity to local wildlife and farm animals adds a layer of rustic charm that enhances the "getaway" feeling. Being able to walk over to Little Hooves Farm gives the kids something special to do without needing to leave the property. If your goal is a straightforward, relaxing stay near the ocean with the comforts of home in a cabin setting, this Cape May Court House staple is a strong contender for your next vacation.

Customer Reviews
My family and I rented a cabin at Ponderosa campground twice a year for about eight years. Two reasons we went to Ponderosa - 1. We liked the cabins here because they have cabins with a full bathroom. 2. They are the closest to Avalon Blvd. Ponderosa has no scheduled activities, no game room for the kids, no outdoor game areas (horseshoes, cornhole, pickleball, minigolf, etc.). They have one pool that is very small. As far as the cabins go, be prepared to clean your cabin when you get there. I have watched the campground clean EVERY cabin with the same dirty water, every year we went they cleaned like this. So, I always unloaded the cleaning supplies first. Then while my husband and son unloaded the car, I would clean/bleach the bathroom, mop the floor of the cabin and wipe the bed matts with bleach wipes. It was always filthy after I cleaned, after they cleaned. Also, no one staying there talks to anyone or even says Hi. Not that we had ever seen. That said, one can find MUCH better campgrounds in the area with lots of activities, planned events going on, Mr. Softee coming on Saturdays, etc.So, if you want a nice pool and any activities going on, go to a different campground.Marci - From your response (which I see you have deleted. So I posted pictures of your response), it is obvious you can not take criticism. You can be rude, I do not care. I already knew you were a rude person. My family and I stayed at your DIRTY campground because of the cost. This is what people ON A BUDGET have to do, stay at not so great places and make the best of it. I knew what to expect from your campground, that is why I had my routine every time we went. That is what we did, for years. Now that my son is older and we can afford better, we moved to a different campground. We are very happy.Thank you for your wishes Marci! We ARE having fruitful camping elsewhere! And now that everyone on Google can see how rude Marci the owner is, they should have "fruitful" camping elsewhere too!
Just spent a week in a Premier Cabin at this lovely campground. Staff was so friendly and very helpful. The campground was very clean, well maintained, and really quiet and relaxing. Our cabin had a bathroom, AC, a small refrigerator, and a microwave - all in perfect working order. We enjoyed visiting the animals at the Little Hooves Farm which is located right onsite. Close to Sea Isle and Avalon, and a short drive to Cape May, so there’s plenty to do close by. Got a chance to talk with the General Manager, Tina - she truly cares about the Campground and Guests, and it shows. We will definitely be back!
This camp ground is awesome. The cabins are immaculate. So clean. The pool is huge. There is a small farm onsite which I visited 2 times a day and made friends with the animals. The beach is 4 miles down the road I would go back and forth twice a day in the am for the beach and pm for arcade, mini golf or dinner. Wildwood and Cape May are only 20 min away and we took a day trip there as well for the boardwalk and water park. We really maximized our time there. I also bbq onsite in between which helps save on spending. Also there is an Acme and Dollar general right across the street so it was super convenient any time I needed to grab something. We loved it so much we extended our stay an extra day, we just weren't ready to leave. We will be coming back again. Love this place.
A great weekend getaway for our family of four. The cabin was surprisingly clean and the campground was quiet. The kids enjoyed the pool and the firewood was reasonably priced (which was nice since no outside firewood is allowed). Also, lots of nearby places to go. The beds were pretty uncomfortable, but that's kind of what we expected for a little campground cabin. Having a private bathroom, running water, fridge, and a/c are worth the tradeoff for us! Will definitely be back.
Cabin was clean, AC worked great . Area was quiet and relaxing. The open rescue farm on the grounds was great and my children enjoyed the animals . Ben the horse was extremely friendly and loved us coming to visit him daily. Lucy the pig was hilarious with her belly scratches. And Farm cats Bonnie and Clyde followed us around for pets and attention. Hank the highland cow was my gfs favorite. The pool was relaxing and very clean. The maintenance team were always active keeping up the grounds . Our cabin lost water for a period of time, but they quickly reacted and fixed the issue. Overall I would definitely come again .
