Raystown Ridge Camp Introduce

For residents of Pennsylvania looking to secure a "home away from home" in the heart of the Alleghenies, Raystown Ridge Camp offers a breathtaking and exclusive seasonal camping experience. Nestled on a high ridge in James Creek, this campground is a standout destination for those who appreciate panoramic vistas and the tranquility of a mountain-top retreat. Spanning approximately 84 acres of lush, wooded terrain, the park is designed with a focus on privacy and scenic beauty, offering only 91 carefully positioned seasonal sites. This low-density approach ensures that every guest can enjoy the sweeping views of the Appalachian ridges and the surrounding valley without the crowded feel of more traditional commercial parks.

The atmosphere at Raystown Ridge Camp is one of neighborly community and outdoor adventure. As a seasonal-focused facility, it fosters long-term friendships among campers who return year after year to create family memories. The owner, Scott, is widely recognized by local visitors for his hands-on management and welcoming communication style, often personally assisting guests with site selection and logistics. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to relax by a campfire or a strategic base for exploring the largest lake entirely within Pennsylvania, Raystown Ridge provides a refined yet rustic environment that highlights the natural splendor of Huntingdon County.

Location and accessibility are among the campground's most praised features. Located at 17794 Ridge Top Drive, James Creek, PA 16657, the park sits high above the daily bustle, offering a unique vantage point that few other sites in the Raystown Lake region can claim. While the climb to the ridge provides spectacular views, the campground remains remarkably accessible to the area's primary water attractions. It is situated only a few miles from the Shy Beaver Boat Launch, making it a favorite for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want quick access to Raystown Lake’s pristine waters. The property is reached via scenic backroads that wind through the Pennsylvania countryside, providing a sense of seclusion while remaining within a short drive of essential services in nearby Huntingdon and Martinsburg.

Services offered at Raystown Ridge Camp are tailored specifically to the needs of seasonal RVers and families seeking a reliable summer retreat. The park emphasizes a "full-service" model for its seasonal residents, ensuring that once you set up your rig, your focus can remain entirely on recreation and relaxation. The facility is secured by a gated entrance and modern security cameras, providing peace of mind for those who leave their equipment on-site throughout the season. Additionally, the management provides clear communication and support for site maintenance, helping residents personalize their "home away from home" within the park's community guidelines.

  • Dedicated seasonal RV camping sites with ample space for large rigs and outdoor living setups.
  • Secure gated entry and 24/7 security camera monitoring for the safety of guests and property.
  • Reliable site hookups designed to support extended seasonal stays during the peak Pennsylvania weather.
  • On-site parking for primary camping units and additional guest vehicles.
  • Access to professional and responsive management for site reservations and maintenance inquiries.
  • Clearly defined seasonal windows, typically opening in mid-April to maximize the spring and summer seasons.
  • Wheelchair accessible parking lot and facilities to accommodate guests with mobility needs.

The features and highlights of Raystown Ridge Camp center on its incredible geography and commitment to a high-quality camping experience. Each site is terraced or positioned to maximize the mountain-top views, ensuring that the sunset is a daily event worth watching. For those who enjoy active recreation, the property features a variety of on-site trails perfect for morning hikes or dog walking. The park's proximity to the Shy Beaver area of Raystown Lake also means that world-class fishing for striped bass and walleye is just minutes away. The community-centric layout includes essential amenities that make long-term camping comfortable for the whole family.

  • Unrivaled mountain-top views of the Appalachian Ridges from nearly every campsite.
  • Spacious sites with plenty of room between neighbors to ensure a private camping experience.
  • On-site hiking trails that wind through the 84-acre property, perfect for wildlife viewing.
  • Picnic tables provided at sites to facilitate family meals and social gatherings.
  • Clean and accessible restroom facilities centrally located for guest convenience.
  • Designated tent sites for those who prefer a more primitive mountain-top experience.
  • Pet-friendly environment where dogs are allowed, making it a true family getaway.
  • Close proximity to regional attractions like Trough Creek State Park and the Allegrippis Trails.

To learn more about current site availability for the upcoming season or to schedule a visit to see the views in person, you can contact the camp management directly. Due to the high demand for seasonal spots in the Raystown Lake region, it is recommended to reach out well in advance of the April opening date.

What is worth choosing about Raystown Ridge Camp is the unique combination of height, horizon, and hospitality. While there are many campgrounds in Central Pennsylvania, few offer the literal "peak" experience of staying on top of a mountain ridge while still being within striking distance of a major boat launch. For a Pennsylvania resident, it represents an incredible value for a seasonal lease, providing a private slice of the mountains that feels exclusive yet friendly. The views alone are worth the choice, but the attentive management and the neighborly atmosphere of the permanent seasonal community are what truly turn a campsite into a home.

Additionally, the campground is worth choosing if you value a quiet environment away from the high-density tourist traffic found directly on the lake shore. Because it is situated high above the water, you avoid the constant noise of boat engines while still having the lake within a five-minute drive. It is a place designed for making memories—where the kids can safely ride their bikes, where the dogs are welcome, and where the host is someone you know by name. For anyone looking for a prestigious and peaceful mountain retreat in James Creek, Raystown Ridge Camp is an exceptional choice that delivers on its promise of "camping with a view."

Great new campground on top of the mountain. The view from each camp site is amazing! Only a few miles from Shy Beaver boat launch. The campground has some very nice sites with plenty of space! Scott has been great with his communication ! He is also a great driver in the snow( that’s when I went to pick out my site. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it back down alive LOL) Can’t wait until April 15th to start making new family memories at our new home away from home .

We just picked a lot at “The Ridge” and we couldn’t be happier!! The views are fantastic on the mountain! Both Scott and Alan were phenomenal to work with. Alan spent hours with us going over and answering any questions we had in general and about each and every site we looked at. They have been super responsive any time we contact them and they stay in touch with us to set our campsite up the way WE wanted. I’d say they definitely go above and beyond. These guys are top notch and we can’t wait to get up there on April 15th to start making family memories!! Thank you!!
