River Bend Campground Introduce
For Connecticut families looking to trade the suburban hum for the rustle of leaves and the gentle flow of a river, River Bend Campground in Oneco offers a classic New England outdoor experience. Located in the "Quiet Corner" of the state, this campground has long been a staple for residents of Windham County and beyond. Recently becoming part of the Modern America Campgrounds network, the facility continues to serve as a hub for seasonal regulars and weekend explorers alike. Whether you are an experienced RV traveler or a family looking to introduce your children to the joys of a campfire, River Bend provides a structured yet scenic environment to unwind.
The campground is nestled along the banks of the Moosup River, providing a picturesque backdrop that defines the local landscape. The atmosphere is designed to be active and communal, with a heavy emphasis on family-oriented programming. On any given summer weekend, the air is filled with the sounds of children on bicycles and the smell of charcoal grills. While the park has transitioned into a more modern management style, it retains the core elements that have made it a favorite for decades: wooded lots, proximity to water, and a wide array of onsite activities that keep every age group entertained from dawn until the 11:00 PM quiet hours.
Location and Accessibility
River Bend Campground is conveniently situated at 41 Pond St, Oneco, CT 06373, USA. For Connecticut locals, it is easily accessible via Route 14A, making it a straightforward drive from major hubs like Norwich or even across the border from Providence, Rhode Island. The campground’s position in the village of Oneco within the town of Sterling places it in one of the more tranquil sections of the state, away from the heavy traffic of the I-95 corridor but close enough to regional attractions like the Moosup Valley State Park Trail and Pachaug State Forest.
Accessibility is a priority at River Bend, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities. The campground features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a dedicated accessible parking lot. The restrooms are also designed to be wheelchair accessible, providing necessary convenience for guests with mobility needs. For those driving larger RV rigs, the site offers on-site parking and a free parking lot for visitors, though it is important to note the strictly enforced 5 mph speed limit within the park to ensure the safety of the many children playing throughout the grounds.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing River Bend Campground is ideal for families who value a busy, activity-filled itinerary. If you are the type of camper who enjoys a "resort-style" atmosphere where there is always a game of horseshoes, a craft session, or a community event happening, this is the place for you. The variety of accommodations—from primitive tent sites to full-hookup RV pads—means you can tailor the level of "roughing it" to your personal preference. For those who enjoy nature photography or fishing, the sites along the Moosup River offer a serene escape that feels remarkably private despite the campground's overall social vibe.
Furthermore, the campground is worth choosing for its convenience. Being located in Oneco means you are never too far from local diners or supply stores in Sterling and Plainfield, yet you are completely immersed in the dense forests of eastern Connecticut. While the park has seen changes in management and pricing in recent years, it remains a robust option for those who want a safe, gated environment where their kids can ride bikes and explore. If you appreciate a well-maintained facility with clean restrooms and a staff that keeps things moving, River Bend continues to be a solid choice for a local Connecticut retreat.

Customer Reviews
We’ve been coming here for three years and, until recently, it was an easy 5-star experience. Unfortunately, since the campground was bought by Modern America Campgrounds, we won’t be returning. The staff has become noticeably less friendly. One worker actually yelled at us for driving 5 mph—exactly the posted speed limit—while we’ve seen that same employee speeding around on a golf cart well above the limit. The double standard was frustrating and unprofessional. This campground used to feel warm and welcoming. Staff members remembered returning guests and made you feel valued. Now check-in is handled by disinterested teens who answer questions with “I don’t know.” It no longer has the same charm.Prices have also become unreasonable—$8 for five small pieces of firewood is excessive. Between the lack of hospitality and inflated costs, this no longer feels like the relaxing getaway it once was.For those spending their hard-earned money and precious family time, I recommend looking elsewhere.
Campground was nice.sites were decent, everyone was nice. And it was quiet .The reason I'm not giving it a 5 star review is due to the pine tree, sap was everywhere I mean everywhere. And personally I think there was a little to much trash on the ground,
Was a fan of Riverbend before it was bought by the new management. People with developmental disabilities should never be outcasted or called out for being different especially upon a campgrounds negligence. Ignorance isn’t a good quality when it’s reflected in management and it can become toxic so you’ve lost my business along with many people I know. You don’t call people with disabilities… group home people it’s ignorant and unprofessional.
Such a great campground kids friendly with so much to do for the kids the time homes are always cleaned and well kept this was out second year going there for an extended stay I'm the time home.. the staff are so nice and helpful
This campground has changed since previous owners sold.. they discriminate against special needs people . Don’t waste your time or money
