Riverbank Campground Introduce
Riverbank Campground is a hidden gem in Central Pennsylvania, offering an intimate and tranquil outdoor experience for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Raystown Lake region. Nestled directly on the banks of the Raystown branch of the Juniata River, this campground provides a serene alternative to the larger, high-traffic resorts nearby. For residents of Pennsylvania, it serves as a quintessential retreat where the gentle flow of the river and the scenic views of the surrounding hills set the stage for a truly relaxing getaway. Whether you are an avid angler, a kayak enthusiast, or a family seeking a quiet weekend under the stars, Riverbank Campground focuses on quality and natural simplicity.
The atmosphere at Riverbank is characterized by its "small-town" hospitality and slow-paced lifestyle. Guests often remark on the calming environment where one can wake up to the sight of local wildlife, such as deer and woodchucks, or listen to the distant, nostalgic sound of trains passing through the valley. It is a place that feels like another world, yet it remains conveniently close to the modern amenities of Huntingdon. The campground is well-loved by seasonal residents and short-term visitors alike, fostering a friendly community spirit that makes newcomers feel welcome in this scenic slice of the Susquehanna Valley heritage.
Location and accessibility are standout features for Riverbank Campground. Located at 8497 Awkerman Road in Huntingdon, PA, the site is just three miles off Route 22, making it exceptionally easy to reach for travelers from across the state. It is strategically positioned across from the Point Boat Launch, providing instant access for those wishing to spend their days on the water. For local Pennsylvanians, the park is a mere few minutes from the historic borough of Huntingdon and the massive recreational expanse of Raystown Lake. Visitors should note that for those arriving with large rigs, there is a local bridge clearance of 13' 6" to consider on the approach.
The layout of the campground is designed to take full advantage of its riverfront geography. While the setting is rustic, the grounds are well-maintained with flat terrain and spacious sites that prevent that "crowded" feeling. On-site parking is ample, and the park is structured to accommodate everything from primitive tent camping to full-sized RVs. Its proximity to the Allegrippis Mountain Bike Trails and Trough Creek State Park makes it a perfect central hub for those who want to spend their mornings hiking rugged mountain paths and their afternoons floating down the calm waters of the Juniata.
Riverbank Campground offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to the needs of modern campers while maintaining its rustic charm. The owners have worked diligently to upgrade the facility, recently adding improved utility lines and facilities. The services currently offered include:
- Full RV camping support, featuring large, spacious sites that are easy to navigate for most rigs.

What is worth choosing about Riverbank Campground is the intentional focus on a peaceful, uncluttered experience. In an era where many campgrounds are becoming over-commercialized, Riverbank remains a place where "quality over quantity" is the guiding principle. It is worth choosing because it places you in the heart of the Raystown region without the noise and congestion of the larger resort parks. The ability to watch the sunrise over the Juniata River while enjoying the modern convenience of full sewer and electric hookups represents a rare balance of comfort and nature.
Furthermore, the value of the location is unparalleled for water lovers. Having a state-managed boat launch just 100 yards downstream and the river practically at your campsite's edge means more time spent enjoying the water and less time transporting gear. Whether you are visiting for a weekend of fishing or settling in for a full summer as a seasonal resident, the combination of affordable pricing, friendly neighbors, and the breathtaking scenery of Central Pennsylvania makes Riverbank Campground a top-tier choice. It is more than just a place to park an RV; it is a gateway to the authentic "river life" that defines the best of the Pennsylvania outdoors.

Owner was quite hostile at first, I don’t think they checked their reservations for the day so when we arrived, we were kind of talked to like fools until she realized we did in fact reserve the spot; But of course I am not familiar with the nuances of owning a large campground. We were in a camper van and not an RV so I don’t know if that had something to do with it (from iOverlander I did not realize it was a predominantly RV site). The site we were in was lovely with a nice few of the water, picnic table and fire pit. The locals who live there during the season were very friendly and more welcoming. Overall a nice campground! Only giving 4 stars for the unpleasantries upon our arrival, kindness is an important factor for us. :)
