Shawn's Hideaway Introduce

For Delaware residents and visitors seeking a authentic coastal retreat, Shawn’s Hideaway offers a unique blend of traditional camping and a permanent residential community. Nestled along the tranquil waters of a tributary leading directly to Rehoboth Bay, this third-generation family-owned business has been a staple of the Millsboro landscape since 1962. Founded by Edward “Whitey” Rodgers and expanded over the decades, the park has evolved from a simple fishing camp into a sprawling 120-acre destination that captures the quiet, wooded charm of Sussex County. Today, it serves as a cherished "hidden gem" for those who want to avoid the high-intensity atmosphere of the boardwalk while remaining just minutes away from Delaware’s premier beaches.

The community is divided into two distinct areas: a mobile home section with approximately 150 lots for year-round residents and a seasonal campground featuring 120 lots dedicated to campers and trailers. This dual nature creates a stable, neighborly environment where seasonal visitors often develop long-standing friendships with permanent residents. Known for its towering pines and shaded lots, Shawn’s Hideaway prioritizes a "back-to-basics" approach to the outdoors, emphasizing peace, quiet, and water-based recreation. It is a place where the morning sound of boat engines heading out to the bay is as common as the evening crackle of a campfire, offering a lifestyle that is increasingly rare in the rapidly developing Delaware coastal region.

Location and Accessibility are primary highlights for locals looking for a convenient getaway. Situated at 24373 Blue Blvd, Millsboro, DE 19966, the campground is located just off Route 24, a major artery that connects the inland towns to the shore. This strategic location means that while guests feel secluded in the woods, they are only a short drive from the shopping and dining hubs of Long Neck and Rehoboth Beach. The property is designed to be accessible to all members of the community, featuring on-site parking and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking lot near the main office. Its proximity to Burton’s Prong allows for direct water access, making it a premier choice for those who prefer traveling by boat as much as by car.

The services offered at Shawn’s Hideaway are focused on facilitating a seamless transition into coastal life, whether for a weekend or a lifetime. The management team maintains the grounds with a professional yet personal touch, providing a range of essential services including:

  • Seasonal camper lot rentals with dedicated space for trailers and RVs from April through October.
  • Mobile home land-lease options for year-round residents seeking affordable coastal housing.
  • A private marina featuring boat slips available for rent, providing direct access to Rehoboth Bay.
  • On-site boat ramp facilities for easy launching of kayaks, jet skis, and powerboats.
  • Potable water system management with regular quality testing to ensure safe drinking water for all residents.
  • Waste management and sewer services integrated into the park infrastructure.
  • A campground store (seasonal) providing basic essentials, ice, and firewood for campers.
  • On-site administrative office for handling lot clean-up notices, billing, and resident inquiries.

The features and highlights of Shawn’s Hideaway make it an ideal destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The park’s layout takes full advantage of its wooded acreage and waterfront position. Notable features include:

  • A private beach area located within the community, offering a quiet spot for sunbathing or wading away from the ocean crowds.
  • A well-maintained playground for children, complete with swings and slides to keep younger guests entertained.
  • Numerous scenic picnic areas equipped with picnic tables, perfect for outdoor family gatherings and barbecues.
  • Extensive fishing opportunities both from the marina docks and the surrounding tributaries.
  • Wooded lots that provide natural shade and a sense of privacy often missing from modern "parking lot style" RV resorts.
  • A pet-friendly policy that allows dogs, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy the vacation.
  • Proximity to the Paradise Grill and other local waterfront dining establishments just a short boat ride or drive away.
  • A quiet, low-traffic atmosphere that is perfect for biking and walking within the park boundaries.

To inquire about current lot availability, boat slip waiting lists, or seasonal rates, visitors can contact the main office during standard business hours. The park's management is known for being friendly and accommodating to those interested in joining the community.

When considering what is worth choosing at Shawn’s Hideaway, the most compelling factor is the combination of affordability and water access. In a region where boat slips and waterfront property can be prohibitively expensive, choosing a seasonal spot here provides an accessible gateway to the Indian River Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. For the local Delawarean, it is worth choosing for its historical stability; being family-owned for over 60 years means the park has a consistent character and a management team that is deeply invested in the local community. It is the perfect choice for someone who values a "no-frills," authentic camping experience where the focus is on the environment and the company you keep.

Furthermore, the community is worth choosing for those who prioritize a quiet lifestyle. Unlike larger "resort-style" parks that feature loud waterparks or constant planned entertainment, Shawn’s Hideaway offers a serene environment where the primary activities are fishing, boating, and relaxing by the fire. This makes it a top choice for retirees or families who want to teach their children to appreciate nature. The "hidden" nature of the park ensures that traffic is kept to a minimum, creating a safe and peaceful haven that truly lives up to its name. By choosing Shawn’s Hideaway, you are securing a piece of the classic Delaware shore lifestyle that remains connected to the land and the water.

Finally, for those considering a more permanent move, the community’s reputation for having some of the most competitive lot rents in the area makes it a smart financial choice. The ability to own a home just minutes from the beach while paying lower monthly fees than nearby developments is a significant advantage. Whether you are looking for a place to park your boat for the summer or a quiet corner of the pines to call home, Shawn’s Hideaway represents the best of Sussex County’s traditional coastal hospitality.

I have gone to Shawn's hideaway to do tree work for many years. 15 yrs ago I went there to climb their tall pines and found a nice little community full of both seasonal and year round residents. Most everyone I came across was very friendly and helpful. They have a nice little marina on the bay and plenty of room to fish . I've never been the type for camper living but now that I'm getting older it had found a certain appeal and if I do decide to ever buy a camper or trailer Shawn's would be the first place I would try to get a spot.

Don't bother calling them for short term stays, they only cater to seasonals. The guy was rude & obnoxious, telling me to go to MD where they like weekenders & it's only 10 miles away he said. I was purposely avoiding that area due to the fact that I was coming to the area to visit a friend who lives there & that 10 Mile drive takes 45-60 minutes or longer in the shore traffic. This guy doesn't deserve the business.
