Spruce Creek Campground Introduce

Spruce Creek Campground is a family-owned and operated destination nestled on 35 sprawling acres in the picturesque foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. Located in Dolgeville, New York, this campground offers a serene escape for those looking to reconnect with nature without sacrificing essential modern comforts. Whether you are traveling in a large motorhome or prefer the traditional experience of pitching a tent under the stars, Spruce Creek provides a variety of camping options tailored to different styles of outdoor recreation. The property is characterized by its significant frontage along Spruce Creek, a state-stocked brown trout stream that provides a soothing backdrop and recreational opportunities for anglers and nature lovers alike.

For New York residents seeking a weekend getaway or a seasonal home base, Spruce Creek Campground represents the quiet, "unplugged" side of the state's wilderness. The park balances open, grassy spaces with more secluded, woodsy areas, allowing campers to choose the environment that best suits their needs. As a relatively modern facility, the campground features updated infrastructure and spacious sites that are significantly larger than the state-required minimums. This focus on space and privacy makes it a popular choice for families and groups who want to enjoy the fresh air of Central New York in a safe and welcoming community setting.

Location and accessibility are major advantages for visitors to Spruce Creek Campground. It is located at 2342 NY-29, Dolgeville, NY 13329, USA. Situated just outside the village limits of Dolgeville, the campground is easily accessible for travelers coming from various parts of the state. It sits approximately 30 minutes from Utica and about an hour and fifteen minutes from Albany or Syracuse, making it a convenient midpoint for regional travelers. Its position on New York State Route 29 provides a direct route into the heart of the Mohawk Valley and serves as a gateway to the vast Adirondack Park just to the north.

The campground is designed to be inclusive and easy to navigate. Accessibility features are integrated into the facility, ensuring that all guests can enjoy their stay. The entrance and on-site parking lots are wheelchair accessible, and the park includes an ADA-compliant bathhouse. For RV travelers, the sites are designed with angled stone pads to simplify the parking process, even for larger rigs. The proximity to local attractions such as the Salisbury Center Covered Bridge and various hiking trails in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest ensures that while the campground itself is peaceful, adventure is never far away.

Spruce Creek Campground offers a comprehensive suite of services to ensure a comfortable and functional camping experience. The management focuses on providing the necessary utilities and support services for both short-term visitors and seasonal guests. Services offered include:

  • Full RV hookups including 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections.
  • Designated tent sites with options for basic sites or those with shared water access.
  • On-site services such as a sanitary dump station for RVs and a self-service laundry facility.
  • A fully stocked camp store featuring basic camping essentials, ice, and local treats.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi access throughout the park to help guests stay connected when necessary.
  • Professional on-site management available to assist with site selection and local information.

The features and highlights of the campground are tailored toward family fun and classic outdoor activities. The layout of the park encourages guests to explore the grounds and participate in communal recreation. Key features include:

What is worth choosing about Spruce Creek Campground is the combination of its pristine natural setting and the authentic, helpful service provided by the owners. Unlike larger, corporate-run parks, Spruce Creek retains a personal touch that many New York campers find refreshing. The sites are known for being exceptionally wide, providing a level of privacy and "elbow room" that is rare in modern campgrounds. This space allows for a more relaxed atmosphere where you aren't crowded by your neighbors, making it an ideal choice for those who truly want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Additionally, the value provided for the price is a significant draw. With competitive rates for full hookup sites and a variety of tiers for tenters and budget-conscious travelers, it remains an affordable way to explore the Herkimer County region. The proximity to the "Diamond Mines" in Herkimer and the historic sites of the Mohawk Valley adds extra incentive for choosing this location as your base camp. For families with children, the "pirate ship" playground and the safe, quiet roads of the park provide a secure environment for kids to play and explore. Whether you're there for the fishing, the nearby Adirondack trails, or simply a quiet night by the fire, Spruce Creek Campground offers a high-quality, quintessential New York camping experience.

We have 5 Golden Retrievers traveling with us. Their favorite activity is swimming. When I made the reservations it was one of the first questions that was asked, about swimming in the creek and being near it. I should’ve been more specific about what I wanted and expected.*You can enter the creek if you want to go down a 3-4 foot drop, something that I didn’t feel comfortable to have my crew do..especially when I noticed used tires in it and lots of overgrowth vegetation on the banks to access the creek. Not user friendly.*The kids playground area was in desperate need of cleaning the overgrown weeds out.*There not a lot of shade in camping areas. Each site has stone pad and grass area.*No dog park for them to stretch their legs.. although we did let them off leash in the field. The field is mowed and somewhat cleared.*Very sparse in having other campers around.*Our picnic table had rotted seat slats and needed to have boards replaced.*The fire pit doesn’t have a fire ring to contain the flames, so beware.*There’s lots of black flies that bite!! So bring repellent.. Even the dogs didn’t want to be outside..It’s unfortunately not what we were expecting.

Love our spot here. We rented a seasonal spot and from the 1st conversation the manager was awesome. He was super friendly and helpful with helping me get the right sized space. He also informed us of road work and an a different route to avoid it. Upon arrival the campground is beautiful. The spaces are big. There is grass in every site. Probably not a biggie for you east cost folks, but when you're from AZ it surely is and boy do they keep it nice. I can actually walk barefoot here with no worries. The manager is always working on something. He never rests. I do believe he is the hardest working man I ever met. There is laundry here. 2 coin operated washers and dryers. With a table and chairs for waiting and folding. The machines seem to work great. There is a restroom with several toilet stalls and 2 showers in the ladies side. My husband said the guys side was nice too. There is a pavilion that people keep having events at and a really cute playground. They even have a pirate ship and a brand spanking new splash pad for the kids. So if you're looking for a nice peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature, but also enjoy amenities this is your place.

Peaceful & quiet during the week I stayed in August. Spots are easy to maneuver & spacy.Owner is helpful. People are friendly. There are alot of "ground" rules in order to preserve the land. Wi-fi is limited speed.

I have to agree with some of the reviewers that this place is so well kept! A real Hidden gem in the area! The owner took great care of this camp ground and very personable! As a family with small children we feel safe and comfortable to run around! Will definitely revisit!
