From the moment you enter the gates, the scent of pine and the salt air of the sound create an immediate sense of arrival. The park caters to a wide demographic, including young families who enjoy the active recreation areas and retirees who appreciate the quiet, scenic waterfront sites. With its recent upgrades and inclusion in the Blue Water development portfolio, Tall Pines has solidified its reputation as one of the Eastern Shore's most reliable and engaging camping locations.

Accessibility is a key priority for the facility. The park features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a spacious, free on-site parking lot that can accommodate large rigs and towed vehicles. Within the campground, the main buildings—including the registration office, camp store, and restrooms—are designed to be wheelchair accessible. The terrain is generally flat, which facilitates easier movement for guests with mobility challenges. Additionally, many of the premium RV sites feature paved or level gravel pads to ensure a stable and accessible setup for all types of recreational vehicles.

What is Worth Choosing

When booking a stay at Tall Pines / Chesapeake Bay KOA, the waterfront and water-view sites are widely considered the most desirable options. These sites not only offer breathtaking views of the Pocomoke Sound but also benefit from the natural breezes that help keep the local insect population at bay during the summer months. For those who enjoy the "glamping" lifestyle, the safari tents provide a unique opportunity to stay in a comfortable, furnished tent that bridges the gap between traditional camping and a hotel stay. Families with children will find the most value in the "Holiday" designation of this KOA, as the splash pad and jumping pillow are standout features that keep younger campers occupied for hours.

The park is also an excellent choice for those who value a quiet, "out-of-the-way" experience without sacrificing modern conveniences. Unlike some of the more crowded parks directly in Chincoteague, Tall Pines offers a sense of seclusion and space. It is worth choosing for travelers who want to be close enough to visit the wild ponies and the beach but prefer to return to a peaceful, wooded environment at the end of the day. Additionally, the park's commitment to accessibility and its "big rig friendly" layout make it a top-tier choice for owners of large Class A motorhomes who require level pads and wide turning radiuses. Whether you are there for the crabbing, the sunsets, or the proximity to NASA launches, this KOA stands out as a versatile and high-quality coastal destination in Virginia.

We had terrible weather during our stay, with rain and a hurricane, but on the one sunny day of the week our kids loved the splash pad, pool and bouncy pillow. Due to the rain the staff accommodated us in moving from a tent site into a safari tent for one night and the safari tent was very comfortable.Facilities were very clean, though we came mid week and the camp was pretty empty, so not sure what it's like on a busy weekend. Store closes pretty early compared to other KOAs we have been to and the snack bar was closed during the days we were staying. My main complaints would be that the wood sold was super damp, the outdoor sink was clogged and the shower heads in the main bathhouse should be replaced. We would love to come back when the weather is better to enjoy the beach and the pools

We just spent a week at the campground. We arrived a day early by mistake and they were so accommodating, our site was available so we were escorted right to it. The Water view sites are by far the best I believe! The view of the sound was amazing and the breeze and open area kept bugs at bay. The office staff were great, the campground and its amenities were clean and well kept. The best part was the proximity to Chincoteague. Short 30 min trip and your surf side. The campground is out on the back roads and quiet. We can’t wait to come back and bring our friends! Great week!

Sunset was amazing, right next to Chincoteague, and overall best campground we’ve been to. We were nervous based on previous reviews, but the bugs and WIFI were not an issue. Golf cart was a bonus. Splash pad and pool were amazing. Staff was very helpful. Amazing KOA!

This campground is in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Narrow roads to get there. Once there, it has a small beach and a nice pool, but you can’t be outside AT ALL if mosquitos like you. They swarm all over, invade the camper and generally make your stay miserable. Also, they are the size of pterodactyls. We ended up staying inside the entire stay. We will not go back.

We stayed in a collage with views of the bay. Great pools, splash zone, well maintained campgrounds, small beach, 2 docks, hammocks, and even a boat launch! My family and dogs enjoyed it. Not too far from other areas of interest. Just bring bug spray but that’s the case anytime you have a water source, woods, or wetlands/marshlands. Also there is no cell signal at least for Verizon, maybe enough to make a call. There is WiFi but it’s not great. Overall 5/5!
