Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts in the Virginia region, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay serves as a premier destination for waterfront relaxation and family-oriented recreation. Nestled along the scenic banks of the Piankatank River in Gloucester County, this sprawling 280-acre resort offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty and modern convenience. Whether you are an avid angler looking to cast a line into the brackish waters of the bay’s tributaries or a family seeking a summer getaway filled with poolside fun, this campground provides an expansive setting to unplug and reconnect. The property is well-known among local campers for its lush, wooded landscape and its ability to accommodate everything from primitive tents to the largest luxury RVs.
The resort’s atmosphere is defined by its coastal Virginia charm, where towering hardwoods meet the shimmering riverfront. As a multifaceted recreation center, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay is more than just a place to park a rig; it is a community hub that hosts a variety of seasonal events and activities. From the friendly greetings of the 24-hour staff to the communal spirit found at the Saturday morning breakfasts in the pavilion, the park fosters a welcoming environment. It is particularly popular with members of the Thousand Trails network, but it also opens its gates to non-members, making it a versatile choice for anyone exploring the Middle Peninsula.
Location and accessibility are key highlights for this Gloucester gem. Situated at 12014 Trails Ln, Gloucester, VA 23061, the campground is easily reached via major Virginia arteries like Route 17, which connects the area to Newport News and the Hampton Roads metropolitan region. Despite its secluded feel, the park is only a short drive from the historic "Living History" towns of the Virginia Peninsula—Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown are all within an hour's reach. The park itself is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances, designated parking lots, and restrooms, ensuring that the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay area is available to all guests. For those with large rigs, the roads are generally wide and manageable, though calling ahead for specific site assignments is highly recommended during peak seasons.

Customer Reviews
My husband and I have a 43 foot fifth wheel and there was no problem at all with the size of the site. This was a great place. Everyone was very friendly. Very welcoming. Had a lot of stuff to do. Bathroom very clean. Can not say enough about this place. We will definitely be back.
RVs keep getting bigger however the RV spots are the smal size as years in the past. We were assigned a spot that had our neighbors fire pit under our kitchen slide 🙄. When we asked to be moved we were told …… sorry, we’re full even though empty spots were all around. They allowed us to spend 2 nights in a spot that was vacant; a weekender wanted it so we would have to leave. They allowed us reservation system is a wish list. Be sure to call the campground - do not just show up.
Just purchased a Thousand Trails cabin pass and stayed here for three nights this week. The trip was excellent. All of the staff we encountered from check in, to maintenance, to housekeeping were friendly and helpful. They have a great BBQ place on site with plenty of amenities and scheduled events. The campground was very well maintained. Special shout out to Emily in housekeeping for helping us get moved to a new cabin almost immediately when we realized the AC in ours wasn't up to par. Thanks Emily! We will definitely be back before the end of the season.
We had a great stay here for the 4th of July! There was one issue with the 30 amp breaker and Tanya came over right away to our site and loaned us an adapter until the electrician could get there the next day to fix it. Tanya was awesome. All the other staff is friendly and helpful too! See you all in August.
Stayed here in our Class A RV. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Far enough in the woods that you got away from it all. Close enough to get out and see the area.
