What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Camp Cardinal RV Resort is primarily about the experience you want to provide for your family. It is arguably one of the best choices in the region for parents with active children. The sheer volume of amenities—from the bounce pads and water slides to the themed crafts and laser tag—ensures that kids are constantly entertained. For many Virginia residents, the "walkable" nature of the park and the on-site ice cream shop create a nostalgic, small-town summer camp atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.
Furthermore, the waterfront features are a significant draw. Unlike many inland campgrounds, Camp Cardinal offers the ability to launch a boat or fish directly from the property. The proximity to the Chesapeake Bay makes it a prime spot for those who enjoy salt-water activities. While the weekends are bustling and social, visitors who prefer a quieter experience often find that arriving on a Sunday or visiting during the mid-week provides a peaceful, serene environment to enjoy the river views. If you are looking for a place that balances high-energy family fun with the rustic charm of coastal Virginia, this resort is a standout option on the Middle Peninsula.

Customer Reviews
This is a phenomenal place to camp with kids. They really do cater to activities for kids, with two pools, bounce pad, playground, ice cream shop, arcade room, special activities for kids. Having said that, if you're looking for a quiet place to relax, this isn't it on the weekends, just FYI. After everyone left on Sunday however, it was quite peaceful. Things I loved: the fishing point with the Adirondack chairs and huge fire pit areas. The crabbing piers. The kids running around making memories. River Mutt ice cream. Things I didn't love: the pool was dirty and cloudy, and the tiles didn't look like they'd been cleaned.....ever. I saw two little girls writing their names in the crud that was adhered to the tiles. 🤢 The bath houses don't look like anyone cleans them either. Probably won't cross it off our list though, because they really seem to be trying to make it a great family place. If the pool and bath houses were cleaned, I couldn't fault the place, especially for families with kids.
We’ve come here a handful of times. We’ve had great experiences as well as bad. My kids love the water slides and the jumping pillow. They also do activities for the kids which is great! I feel like they used to do more but still ok. However, this camp ground needs some TLC. The bathrooms are dark so you can hardly see. They’re also very dirty. We love this campground over all but would just love to see some renovations. We also love the ice cream shop. They have great options!P.S. the whole campground is very much walkable. Just bring some walking shoes you don’t need a golf cart.
I had the best get away with my friend. Girls trip was a success. Thank you so much Corey for your help in booking a weekend to remember. This was the best mini vacation where it felt like home, due to the management. I will be back and recommending Camp Cardinal to all my RV friends. Corey made us feel comfortable in assisting us getting set up. I have visited many camp grounds and by far, he has been the best manager I have encountered. Thank you so much for everything. What a great team.
We came to this campground for a quick getaway since we only live 30 minutes away. We arrived Thursday night with no issues. My husband left in the morning for work and wasn't returning till that evening. We were at site 59, next to the water. Around 10ish the next morning, I noticed that the water was rising and about 45 minutes later it was surrounding my camper up to my cafs. I went to the office to get help and see if they could use a tractor to pull me out. Staff in the office acted like they could care less. Zero concern on there part even when I told them I was by myself. A staff member said she had to ask the manager if they could move me. I ran back to camper to get my dog out. My camper was completely surrounded by water. Fortunately, a friend came with our truck and helped pull me out. I never heard from any manager or staff. Know one came to help us or see if we were OK. Absolutely terrible customer service. Why would you allow anyone on those sites knowing the tide was going to be higher than normal. Jump to Saturday and I get a call asking if we were checking in. The office said they had know idea there was an issue. Absolutely unbelievable! I will not be back.
We visited Camp Cardinal in Hayes, VA, and had a fantastic time. The kids loved the bounce pad, and the pool is right next to it, making it easy to go between the two.Best of all, River Mutt Ice Cream is just steps away. It was the perfect treat after swimming and bouncing, with lots of great flavors. We also enjoyed some peaceful fishing on the river. Camp Cardinal is a great spot for a fun, family-friendly day. We’ll definitely be back
