Catskill Mountains/ Gilboa KOA Holiday Introduce

Catskill Mountains / Gilboa KOA Holiday is a sprawling 95-acre outdoor destination located in the heart of the northern Catskills. Formerly known as Nickerson Park, this revamped campground now carries the prestigious KOA Holiday brand, signifying a commitment to high-quality amenities and family-centric recreation. Nestled within the foothills of Schoharie County, the property is terraced across five levels, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and direct access to the refreshing waters of the Schoharie Creek. It serves as a perfect basecamp for New York residents seeking to trade the city skyline for star-filled nights and forested trails.

The campground is designed to be a comprehensive vacation spot where nature meets modern comfort. Whether you are a traditionalist who enjoys pitching a tent under the pines or a "glamper" looking for a climate-controlled lodge, the facilities cater to every style of outdoor enthusiast. The property is famously women-owned and prides itself on being an inclusive environment, identifying as a transgender safe space and LGBTQ+ friendly. This welcoming spirit, combined with a robust schedule of themed weekends, live music, and organized crafts, creates a vibrant community atmosphere that keeps local families returning year after year.

For those located in the New York region, the Gilboa KOA Holiday offers a sense of seclusion without being inaccessible. Its proximity to significant historical sites like the Gilboa Fossil Forest and cultural highlights like the Iroquois Museum makes it an educational hub as well as a recreational one. The sheer size of the property ensures that even during peak summer weekends, there is enough open green space for everyone to find their own corner of peace. From the sound of the rushing creek to the smell of woodsmoke in the air, it embodies the quintessential New York camping experience.

  • Location and Accessibility

The campground is situated at 378 Stryker Rd, Gilboa, NY 12076. It is conveniently positioned about three hours north of New York City and roughly an hour southwest of Albany, making it a manageable weekend getaway for a large portion of the state's population. The final approach involves scenic mountain roads, and the campground provides a gated entrance to ensure privacy and security for its guests.

Accessibility is a key feature of the Catskill Mountains / Gilboa KOA Holiday. The facility includes a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a designated parking lot. For those with mobility needs, the campground provides accessible restrooms and public shower facilities. On-site parking is free and plentiful, and the campground's terraced layout is connected by maintained roads that accommodate even the largest RV rigs. Visitors often note that while the terrain is hilly, the staff is incredibly helpful in escorting guests to their sites and ensuring they are leveled and settled safely.

  • What is Worth Choosing

Choosing the Catskill Mountains / Gilboa KOA Holiday is particularly worth it if you are traveling with a family. The sheer volume of activities—from the water slides and pool to the Ga-Ga ball pits and weekly music—means that children are consistently entertained, allowing parents to actually relax. The campground's transition to a KOA Holiday has brought significant upgrades, and the spaciousness of the sites is frequently cited by veteran campers as being superior to many other private parks in the Northeast.

For RV owners, the "KOA Patio" sites are a standout choice. These sites provide a level of finish and outdoor living space that elevates the camping experience, often including high-end picnic tables and fire rings. If you are a pet owner, the inclusion of two dog parks and a washing station makes this one of the most pet-friendly destinations in the Catskills. Finally, for those who appreciate natural beauty, choosing a site along the Schoharie Creek is highly recommended. Falling asleep to the sound of the water and having the ability to launch a tube right from your backyard is a luxury that few other campgrounds in the region can match. Whether for a quick weekend or a full seasonal stay, the combination of professional management and stunning natural surroundings makes this a top-tier New York destination.

Absolutely an enjoyable visit. The 90 acre property is beautiful. So much to do here. There’s a swimming creek, huge pool, water park, play grounds, music every weekend, crafts and actives for young and older than young. Remolded office/store, is bright and cheery with just the right stick of items and a freezer with all the yummy frozen treats you can think of. The fireworks display has been spectacular this year and last. Truly a great place to make new memories. Pitch a tenant, bring your camper, RV or rent one of the new cabins. You can’t go wrong. Looking forward to going back.

Place is gorgeous, friendly and the staff is well knowledge in what they do. Amenities are great and always seem to be clean, river near by is beautiful and not too many restaurants near by. But all the ones we tried were delicious ever fair priced.

We are seasonal campers here and we love it! We have great neighbors and we love everything about the campground. Our seasonal site we love more each year as we make it a little more feeling like home. We enjoy our fire nights as well as spending time with family and the dogs at our campsite making new memories. There is so much to do here. There are an abundance of facilities, we enjoy spending time down by the creek during warm weather to cool off. We enjoy the many DJ and band nights at the Pavilion, which are usually scheduled every weekend! There's a great in-ground pool area just next door to that too. There are lots of games and activities the campground schedules for kids and adults, as well as cornhole boards horseshoe pits that they have weekly tournaments as well as you can go and play anytime on your own and enjoy. There's a hiking trail which can bring you into the woods if you're a nature lover you can go to Mine Kill State Park and see the waterfall and the amazing water and nature views along the way! This is only a bit of what we enjoy about coming here and we will continue to enjoy it in the years ahead!
