Country Roads Campground Introduce

For those living in the New York region, the search for a perfect weekend sanctuary often leads toward the rolling peaks and quiet valleys of the Northern Catskill Mountains. Country Roads Campground, located in the historic and scenic town of Gilboa, New York, serves as a quintessential example of the "classic" American camping experience. Situated on a high mountain ridge at an elevation of over 2,100 feet, this campground offers visitors more than just a place to pitch a tent; it provides a vantage point for some of the most breathtaking sunsets and mountain vistas in the state. Whether you are a local New Yorker looking to escape the city's humidity or a suburban family seeking to start a new summer tradition, Country Roads is a destination that prioritizes peace, safety, and a sense of community.

Originally established in 1969, Country Roads Campground has a rich history of family-oriented hospitality. For decades, it was led by Diane, whose kindness and dedication helped generations of families build lasting summer memories. Today, that legacy of warm, personal service continues under the stewardship of her daughter Kelly and her husband Brian. As a women-owned business, the campground maintains a professional yet deeply friendly atmosphere where owners live on-site and are often seen personally greeting guests or leading a hayride through the terraced grounds. The property spans 95 lush acres, offering a mix of wooded, semi-wooded, and grassy sites that cater to every type of camper, from those in large RV rigs to backcountry backpackers.

Location and accessibility are major benefits for travelers coming from the tri-state area. Located at 144 Peaceful Ln, Gilboa, NY 12076, the campground is remarkably accessible while feeling entirely secluded. It is approximately three hours from New York City and just about an hour from Albany and Schenectady, making it an easy drive for a Friday afternoon getaway. The final leg of the journey takes you across the scenic bridge of the Schoharie Reservoir, leading you up the mountain to the gated entrance of the park. For those traveling with larger vehicles, the campground is "big rig friendly" and offers well-maintained gravel roads. Accessibility is also a priority on-site, with a wheelchair-accessible parking lot and flat common areas near the main pavilion and general store.

The services offered at Country Roads Campground are designed to provide a "home away from home" level of convenience. The goal is to allow campers to focus on relaxation rather than logistics. From the moment you arrive, the staff provides an escort service to your site to ensure you are settled in correctly. The following services are available to all guests:

  • Full-service RV camping with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer hookups.
  • Dedicated tenting areas, including "The Pines," which offers spacious, spread-out sites with nearby water spigots.
  • On-site rental accommodations, including a rustic cabin and a cozy one-bedroom cottage equipped with air conditioning for those who prefer "glamping."
  • A fully stocked General Store providing essential RV supplies, groceries, ice, and firewood.
  • Comprehensive sanitation facilities including clean restrooms and hot showers with private dressing areas.
  • A modern laundromat on the premises for guests on extended stays.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi available at most campsites, allowing for remote work or streaming during quiet hours.
  • Acceptance of multiple payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.

Features and highlights are what truly distinguish the "Country Roads" experience from a standard park stay. The facility is packed with recreational amenities that appeal to children and adults alike, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. The owners organize a vibrant activities schedule throughout the season, featuring themed weekends and community-wide celebrations. Key highlights of the campground include:

  • A heated outdoor swimming pool and a relaxing hot tub (jacuzzi) available until 10:00 PM.
  • A large community pavilion that hosts Bingo nights, potluck dinners, and special entertainment like live bands and DJs.
  • Extensive sports facilities including a basketball court, volleyball court, soccer area, horseshoes, and an arcade with ping-pong.
  • A well-maintained children's playground and a specific "Tot Lot" for younger kids.
  • Regularly scheduled weekend activities such as hayrides, scavenger hunts, giant bonfires, and arts and crafts.
  • Two designated dog parks where four-legged family members can roam freely and off-leash.
  • Direct proximity to the Schoharie Reservoir and Schoharie Creek, offering incredible views and fishing opportunities within walking distance.
  • Access to the "Long Path" hiking trail and nearby nature walks that showcase the local flora and fauna.

For those interested in visiting, the campground is open seasonally, typically starting in early May. You can reach the main office at (518) 827-6397 to inquire about site availability or seasonal rates. For mobile-based inquiries, the number is +1 518-827-6397. The address for your GPS is 144 Peaceful Ln, Gilboa, NY 12076. Because the owners live on-site, the management is highly responsive to guest needs, whether you need a firewood delivery or advice on the best local hiking trails.

What is worth choosing about Country Roads Campground is the genuine sense of peace and the "no-drama" environment that the current owners, Kelly and Brian, have worked hard to maintain. For local New Yorkers, the value lies in the balance of affordability and quality. It is a place where you can find solitude at a wooded tent site on a Tuesday or join a high-energy cornhole tournament and a giant bonfire on a Saturday. The community of seasonal campers is exceptionally welcoming, often making first-time visitors feel like they’ve been part of the group for years.

Furthermore, the surrounding area offers a wealth of exploration. Within a short drive, you can visit Mine Kill State Park to see its famous waterfalls, explore the underground wonders of Howe Caverns, or visit the Gilboa Museum to see Devonian-era fossils. Choosing Country Roads Campground means placing yourself at the center of the best that the Northern Catskills have to offer, while having a clean, safe, and friendly home base to return to each evening. Whether you are coming to start a new family tradition or to revisit childhood memories of the great outdoors, Country Roads is a premier choice for an authentic New York camping adventure.

My wife and I use to tent camp with our young children many years ago. Country Roads was our favorite spot to camp. Everyone was so friendly and Diane was always so kind and helpful and always made our time there feel special. As time went on our children grew up and had families of their own and camping seemed to be a thing of the past. Well my wife and I wanting to get back to our camping roots decided to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary by renting the cottage at Country Roads for 4 nights. We couldn’t have been more happy. Diane has unfortunately passed 🙏🏻 but her daughter Kelly and husband Brian have taken it over and have done a wonderful job. Our 4 days brought back so many memories and the improvements Kelly and Brian have done have improved the campground even more.If you want a peaceful, safe, wonderful camping experience then Country Roads is for you.We can’t wait to come back with our grandchildren and start the next chapter of memories!Thank you Kelly & Brian!!Rich & Laurie

Our family spent Labor Day weekend at Country Roads and had an amazing time! The facility and grounds were extremely well maintained and the staff and owners were super helpful and friendly. The owner live right on site and are easily accessible if you need help with anything. We enjoyed the activities they offered for the kids (hay rides, scavenger hunts, etc) and really enjoyed hanging out and relaxing in the common areas with the other campers staying there. They have a really friendly community of seasonal campers that stay there and are extremely welcoming. It is also right next to a reservoir where you can walk that has incredible views! No drama, no issues. Just super peaceful and would definitely go back again!

We stayed a week at Country Roads Campground and really enjoyed our time. The campground is well-maintained, with beautiful scenery and clean facilities. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made our stay even more enjoyable.A heads-up: there isn’t much around the area, and the closest big-chain grocery store (Walmart) is about 45 minutes away, so it’s best to come stocked up for your stay. Firewood is available on-site and nearby, and there are a couple of charming farm stands in the area.Overall, a peaceful, well-kept spot if you’re looking to relax and enjoy the scenery!

We were in the area for a family function and rented the cottage for 2 nights. We were pleased to realize we happened to pick the "Christmas in July" weekend. There was a festive hayride and several campsites decorated for the occasion. The property was beautiful and clean. It was nice to see the family-friendly atmosphere. Hope to visit again one day. Thank you, Long family, for your hospitality.
