Henderson’s hide-a-way campground Introduce
For those of us living in the Green Mountain State, the call of the outdoors is a constant presence. Whether it is the sound of a rushing river or the rustle of leaves in the breeze, Vermont offers a unique brand of tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. Nestled in the heart of the White River Valley, Henderson’s Hide-a-way Campground serves as a charming retreat for locals and travelers alike. This small, family-operated destination captures the essence of traditional Vermont camping: simple, scenic, and deeply connected to the natural landscape. Located right on the banks of the river, it provides a peaceful escape from the hustle of daily life while maintaining a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that makes every visitor feel at home.
Henderson’s Hide-a-way Campground is particularly well-known among the local outdoor community for its unpretentious charm. It is not a massive, commercialized resort with bright lights and noisy attractions. Instead, it offers a "hide-a-way" experience that stays true to its name. For Vermont residents looking for a quick weekend getaway or for those traversing the state on a larger adventure, this campground offers the perfect spot to pitch a tent and enjoy the evening air. The owners are frequently cited for their kindness and hospitality, ensuring that the spirit of Vermont neighborliness is alive and well at this South Royalton gem.
Location and accessibility are key factors that make this campground a standout choice for residents of Windsor County and beyond. Situated at 1427 S Windsor St in South Royalton, the campground is remarkably easy to reach while still feeling tucked away. It is conveniently located near the center of South Royalton, a town known for its vibrant community and local shops. This proximity means that while you are sleeping under the stars, you are only a quick trip away from town if you need to grab extra supplies, a hot meal, or explore the local scenery. For those coming from nearby towns like Sharon, Tunbridge, or Bethel, it represents one of the most accessible riverside spots in the region.
The accessibility features extend to practical needs as well. The campground includes a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that all visitors can safely reach the site. For those arriving by vehicle, there is convenient on-site parking available. However, one of the most significant highlights of its location is its position on the ACA Northern Tier route. This makes it a premier destination for bicycle tourers who are navigating the cross-country trails. The campground is designed to be welcoming to those arriving on two wheels, offering a logistical advantage that few other sites in the immediate area provide. Being right on the river also means that water-based activities and beautiful views are just steps away from your tent.
The services offered at Henderson’s Hide-a-way Campground focus on the fundamentals of a great outdoor experience. The goal is to provide a clean, safe, and functional environment where the focus remains on the environment and the company of your fellow campers. When considering which Vermont campground to visit, Henderson’s Hide-a-way is worth choosing for several distinct reasons. First and foremost is the location. Finding a site that is both "on the river" and "near the town" is a rare combination. Many river sites are miles away from any services, but here you have the peace of the White River with the convenience of South Royalton just a short ride or drive away. This makes it an ideal spot for "first-time" campers or families who want the experience of the wilderness without being completely isolated from modern necessities.
For the cycling community, the choice is even clearer. The commitment to supporting those on the Northern Tier route through discounted rates and easy access from the road shows a level of care for the touring community that is highly valued. Furthermore, the simplicity of the site is its greatest strength. In a world where everything is increasingly complex, there is a profound value in a campground that offers exactly what you need: a flat spot for a tent, a table for a meal, and a beautiful view of the Vermont landscape. The fact that the owners are local residents who take pride in their property adds a layer of safety and hospitality that commercial sites cannot replicate. Whether you are looking to fish, bike, or just sit by the river and watch the water go by, Henderson’s Hide-a-way provides the perfect Vermont backdrop for your next outdoor adventure.
In conclusion, Henderson’s Hide-a-way Campground is a testament to the beauty of simplicity in Vermont's outdoor recreation scene. It serves as a vital resource for the South Royalton area, offering a space where nature is the primary attraction. By providing essential amenities like running water, picnic areas, and accessible parking, it ensures that the beauty of the White River is available to everyone. If you are looking for a place where the people are nice, the river is close, and the atmosphere is genuinely peaceful, this is the hide-a-way you have been searching for. It is an excellent example of the local businesses that make living in Vermont so special, providing a space for both locals and visitors to appreciate the natural wonders of our state.

Small basic campground, but conveniently close to South Royalton and right on the river. As a bicycle tourer it is right of the ACA Northern Tier route . Discounted rate for cyclists. They have drinking water (although it isn't plumbed) and porta potties, otherwise a very basic, site, but it is a quick ride into town for food and other needs.
Excellent campground right on the river. The owners are very nice people.
Heard about their Tubin' Taxi service and had to go check it out! It was a great day for it today, sunny and a "feels like" temp of 98°F 🥵. $10 a person gives you parking, tube use, and shuttle bus service to a put-in spot up-river (they can help you have a longer or shorter tube trip as you wish). Then you just tube yourselves back down to the campground! Friendly owners and nice place. Bring lots of water, and a dry-bag was very helpful to put phones and stuff in and attaches to the tubes. You could probably do a floating cooler and attach to the tubes also. Important - wear good water shoes and of course sunscreen!! ☀️😎We are travelers working for the summer at DHMC, and have no way to keep our own river tubes or haul them around, so we super appreciated this easy way to go tubing here! We will definitely be back again for tubing down the White River and highly recommend this place for anyone looking to go tubin' in the area.
Hidden jem that even has live music on specific dates. Even without a campaign they offer a ride to tube down the white river with parking available on site!!
I cannot wait to get back to camp! Best place ever! Quiet and peaceful Cheryl and Steve make it feel like home and are thereTo help if anything is needed
