What is worth choosing about Kate's Lazy Lodging is the specific "vibe" that cannot be replicated by a standard hotel chain. It is worth choosing for the local New Yorker who wants to feel far away from the city without sacrificing a certain level of urban coolness and aesthetic appeal. The property strikes a rare balance: it is rustic enough to feel like a true nature retreat, yet polished enough to provide modern comforts like a heated plunge pool and high-speed communication from staff.
The commitment to vintage authenticity makes it a factual favorite for photographers, artists, and fans of retro culture. Furthermore, the property's layout—with its wide-open meadow and creek access—provides a sense of space that is restorative for those used to cramped city living. The attention to detail, from the selection of local movies to the thoughtful communication from the office manager, Geralyn, ensures that guests feel cared for even in a self-service environment. AMAZING stay! The property sits inside acres of a pristine meadow, with the large Esopus creek running through, and stunning mountain views. We chose a suite that seemed the most secluded, with the back deck facing the meadow (beautiful view!). Not that it mattered that much, as we spent more of our time sitting by the creek taking in the mountain and water views. We had a full kitchen, but also took advantage of one of the many grills available throughout the property. I LOVE all of the uber cool vintage decor! The Japanese plunge pool being heated at night was a much needed respite for my tired muscles after some long hikes. Geralyn the office manager is excellent at communication, even answering emails outside of office hours. Coming from the hospitality industry I really appreciate that. She is great. The confirmation email pretty much gives you all of the information you need to know, which was extremely helpful. It was our second time here, and we can't wait to come back.
We stayed here for a weekend in December and it was the perfect getaway spot. Our suite (6A) had a gorgeous view of the meadow and creek and really fun, kitschy feel. For me, it was the perfect level of rustic, but not so secluded that I felt anxious or trapped. The suite itself was appointed with tons of sweet little touches, such as a collection of dvd and vhs movies with local connections, complimentary night shirts, and really thoughtful decor. For Twin Peaks Fans, it felt a lot like I was in a room at the Great Northern, which made it even more fun. The little kitchenette was the perfect size for a weekend break, with a little propane stove and refrigerator. My only criticism here is that I'd have preferred a bigger coffee maker, but this was not at all a big deal. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the suite has a full bathroom. Then there is the view! This suite's deck looks out over the meadow and creek. It was such a joy to wake up and be able to look out into such beautiful nature. It was very cold out while we were there, so we didn't spend a lot of time on the grounds, but what we did see was breathtakingly beautiful.Kate's is located very close to Woodstock, which made for a pleasant afternoon trip to walk around and sightsee. We also enjoyed takeout from a local diner one night for dinner.Even with COVID restrictions in place, which limits recreation options around the site, and means the office is unmanned, we still felt like the staff at Kate's had gone above and beyond in taking care of us.The bottom line is: If you're looking for a fun getaway somewhere that feels a little secluded and also a little urban, this is a great option. It's not a luxury hotel or cabin in the woods, but somewhere satisfyingly in-between.
A little deceptive from what youd expect from the website. Its not set back in a little secluded section just outside of Woodstock. It sits on probably the busiest 55 mph road in the surrounding area of Woodstock. With the exception of the back yard, your surrounded with a neighbors house's on both sides and trucks and cars going by at 60 mph.Overall clean, but the place just fell short. You can see the theme is supposed to be nitchy, retro, and ironic. Just comes off cheap.Allot of what the place has to offer , doesn't have the follow through.1: You think you'll be out in the woods surrounded by nature. But with the exception of the back yard, you have the busy roadside, a residential neighbor across the street, and one on each side. There’s about 5 acres out back from the highway, but it’s just run down. There’s a couple dilapidated air stream trailers about 75’ from the stream. Trailers are rotting into the earth, very Jason Friday the 13th.2: The creek outback is beautiful. But, there a 4' to 8' brush covered ravine that slows any easy access to put your feet in the water.3: There's cookers located on the lawn in the parking lot, and down by the stream. But you better bring your own charcoal, lighter, etc.. Yes u can enjoy the roar of traffic as u cook with charcoal in the parking lot. If you remember to bring your own charcoal.....4: There's 2 make shift kinda fire pits down by the stream. But, you'll have to bring your own firewood, lighter, etc.. Or gamble on some deer ticks and find some in the woods.5: We did think that each unit had its own "Japenese bath". Not the case, theres one heated bath for the whole place. Its nice, if you dont mind sitting in it with other guest's. No jets, just a hot water. Our first night there was no lights at the bath. So we used our phone for light and music and soaked a little. The 2nd night there was one light, so it was a little better.6: Room was basically clean. But very heavy dank oder, like a wet basement. They had a little oder absorber in the kitchen so they are aware of it. But it didnt do much . We killed 4 horseflys, and one spider.7: No stove in our room, but a toaster oven, and coffee pot that made 3 cups of coffee. Three whole cups......8: There's a TV, but just basics, the majority of the channels are world news, and QVC type . Local station is available.VCR/DVD with a 12-15 really ironic bad old movies (poltergiest 3, Beach Party, etc..) That was kinda neat and fun.9: No radio in the room, no music....? :(10: No Uber ..... which suk'd. Cause our plan was to Uber into Woodstock for dinner and a show at night. There is a taxi service in Woodstock, but its limited, and theres no phone service (zero bars, theres even a sign on the office telling you theres no service). So you'll have to use a land line, and it can be a bit of a wait. You can bring your own food to cook, but there was no stove, you can cook out, but you'll need your own charcoal, you can have a campfire, but you’ll need you own wood. The whole place just seemed to have that pattern. The overall feel was a public park, but you can stay overnight. If you want the experience of staying in an old niche style Motel off the highway, with removing the immediate dangers of staying at a Motel on the side of the highway. Then this might be the place for you.Id give it 2.5 stars if it was possible. Ive stayed in Hotels in down town Boston for the same price.Basically just a little over sold, over priced, and run down for what you get. The expectations set by website, does not live up.NYS has some of the most beautiful public parks with 1,000's of acres of woods, cookers, , and access to bodies of water. With either free, or minimal cost. Save allot of money and take advantage of what upstate NY has to offer.
We recently spent 3 nights at Kate's Lazy Meadow and we absolutely enjoyed our stay ! We were actually staying at an Inn right in Woodstock but decided to switch hotels after driving by Lazy Meadow. We are so happy we did ! You couldn't ask for a better location. It's only a short drive to Woodstock and there are plenty of outdoor activities close by. The room was comfortable and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Yes... the wifi is slow but it is slow everywhere in the Catskills. Remember this motel is meant to be fun and "rustic" so have fun with it. This place is the perfect getaway from the busy city and we will definitely be back next summer.
We all had a fabulous time at Kates Lazy Meadow. This place is great. I went along with 6 of my other friends from High School (we are all out many years). We live in all various places and met this year at Kates. Only thing was it was too short. So much to do and see not only chit chatting, but hiking, hot tubing and of course exploring near by Woodstock.Love love the DVD's except Cathy ran out of the room "scared" when we were watching "Go Ask Alice". I mean that was the topper offer!!!The first night we went to the Red Onion for dinner but the second we cooked a huge meal in the cabin. Nothing was needed and anything that wasn't there like Olive Oil was left just as the previous guests left there condiments(oregano,etc...)knifes, forks, spoons, everything was thought about.I am going back with my husband. Please please don't change anything except for stocking John Waters movies and stocking more B-52 cd's. Don't think we did not appreciate the B52 cd already loaded into the cd player.I give this 5 stars!!!!
