Choosing Sleepy Hollow Campground is worth it for anyone who values a balance of "immaculate" maintenance and rugged natural beauty. In the competitive New York camping market, it is rare to find a facility that consistently keeps its restrooms and common areas in such high condition while sitting on the edge of a wild creek. For families, the "worth" is found in the safe, kid-friendly atmosphere where children can explore the outdoors within a managed environment. For the solo traveler or the fishing enthusiast, the value lies in the immediate access to the water and the quiet, respectful culture that the management enforces throughout the grounds.
Furthermore, the campground's location near Phoenicia means you aren't limited to camp food and wilderness. You can enjoy a morning hike and an afternoon of tubing, followed by a gourmet dinner in town, all without spending more than a few minutes in your car. The combination of Wyatt and his team’s hands-on management and the stunning 360-degree mountain views makes this more than just a place to park—it is a destination that captures the heart of what Catskills camping should be. If you are looking for a place where you can truly "unplug" while still having access to clean showers and a friendly neighbor, Sleepy Hollow is a standout choice for your next New York getaway.

We camped here for 2 seasons. The campground is always kept immaculate, bathrooms are always spotless and attended to often during the day. Wyatt and his wife were always friendly and accommodating to all our requests and need for assistance.Nestled on the bank of the Esopus Creek and just 1 mile from the quaint and quiet little town of Phoenicia. This campground is like an oasis. There are seasonal sites, group sites, and available riverside sites. The creek is a great spot for trout fishing and swimming when the water is high enough (which is often). The only thing I would change, is for them to be open all year round. But due to state and local regulations they can't. Also everyone needs a break after a busy summer season at Sleepy Hollow. I look forward to the day I can bring my grandkids there to enjoy what I and my children enjoyed.
Was there, extended, due to tire problems, while working on that, Wyatt made me leave campground. In converter, Wyatt insisted must sleep outside, at night, irregardless of bears, (just came from a place with a rattlesnake at site), weather, personal preference or threat or recovering from injuries. Attempts were made to reason with Wyatt and Wanda, this forced leaving, at a paid site, and a local for 40 years, neat, clean, organized, working remotely on huge issues, this action caused impedment of reunification with my children, caused such significant damage to my suv, in addition to towings, the suv was totaled. Lost all electrical, no ac/no heat, all blew out from forced "leave now". And a local for 40 years, do the math on age, and injuries, causing disability. So the "leave now" impeded an older, disabled, neat, clean, local (2 states) paying woman, from fixing the tire, to avoid issues. I'm sure an ADA advocate would see the multitude of issues here, at this flawed area.
Awesome family run campground with an onsite owner.Warning: If any campground is private call ahead and make a reservation.DO NOT ENTER PRIVATE LAND without prior notification and reservations. What's wrong with y'all! In addition there are no cabins in this private campground.Security for campers and their belongings is paramount for all campground owners. If your visiting or exploring any private campground do it in a sensible hr and follow the signs to the office and introduce yourself. It's common sense.Take your loved ones, friends and family camping. Bring your fishing poles and water toys for the Esopus River. Perfect spot. But Please, don't forget your common sense. This review written by a camper and not in any form related to owner.
I had a seasonal site for two summers and this was probably the best campground I have ever stayed at. Ken the owner, was always super helpful and his family was always willing to help out with anything you needed. I has a riverfront site (28) and it was so peaceful. The campground is located directly across the street from the Phoenicia diner and only two minutes to the quaint hamlet of Phoenicia. Bathrooms were always clean and comfortable to use. I'm a full timer now and look forward to spending a summer there again.
The best campsite in Catskills.BUT THIS YEAR THEY STOPPED TAKING OVERNIGHT RESERVATIONS!!!! This is so sad as we have been coming there for years. I can't belive only seasonal RVs now allowed.
