Tom's Cove Quarter Horses Introduce
Tom's Cove Quarter Horses, often known locally in conjunction with the expansive Tom's Cove Park, is a storied destination for outdoor enthusiasts on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. This facility represents a deep connection to the island's unique heritage, offering a front-row seat to the natural wonders of the Eastern Shore. Nestled along the Assateague Channel, the campground provides a serene vantage point where the land meets the sea, overlooking the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and the Assateague Island National Seashore. For Virginia families, it has become a generational tradition to set up camp here, where the morning begins with a sunrise over the water and the frequent sight of wild ponies grazing across the channel.
The atmosphere at Tom's Cove is one of relaxed, coastal charm. Unlike highly commercialized resorts, this location maintains a classic island feel that prioritizes the outdoor experience. It serves as a community hub for "fun-minded adventurers" who appreciate the simple pleasures of life, such as saltwater fishing, crabbing, and beachcombing. The park’s layout takes advantage of its extensive shoreline, offering premium waterfront sites that allow guests to park their RVs right at the water's edge. This proximity to the Assateague Channel makes it a premier spot for observing the famous Chincoteague Pony Swim, an annual event that draws visitors from across the country to witness the ponies coming ashore just up the shoreline from the park.
Location and accessibility are primary factors that make Tom's Cove a favored choice for regional travelers. Situated at 8229 Beebe Road (with the main park office at 8128 Beebe Road), the campground is tucked away from the high-traffic areas of the island while remaining minutes away from local boutiques, seafood eateries, and the entrance to the wildlife refuge. The facility is well-equipped for all visitors, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot. On-site parking is ample, catering to both day visitors and those with large RV rigs. Its location on the southern end of the island ensures that guests are perfectly positioned to enjoy the best of Chincoteague’s tranquil seaside environment.
The services offered at Tom's Cove are designed to support a comprehensive camping lifestyle. Whether you are arriving in a 45-foot motor coach or a simple tent, the infrastructure is in place to ensure a comfortable stay. The park is known for its "old-school" approach to hospitality, emphasizing personal interaction and a helpful staff that treats guests like family.

We started camping once per year at Tom’s Cove. Very nice place. Fishing and relaxing. Sunrise every morning. And often we can see wildlife in the area
My parents use to bring me here when I was little now we bring my son and it's the best experience ever!!!! We always make the best memories here a day the price is reasonable and there's so much for the kids to do here
One of the best campsites around
I am enjoying some much-needed downtime… This is the perfect spot for that. Beautiful views of the water and Assateague Island, lots of birds, ducks and Canadian Geese. Thanks yo the great staff I met: Penny, Bonnie, Peggy, Betty Jo, Sue… Everybody’s awesome! There have been gale force winds the last few days but that has not interrupted the solitude and the beauty of the area. I will definitely come back here again! End of season is really nice because the campground is very quiet. They have laundry facilities, great heated showers, and really friendly staff.
We love it here! Best camp spot for us is where you can see the water!
