Williamsburg Campground Introduce
For Virginians, few destinations combine history and recreation quite like the Historic Triangle. Nestled in the heart of this region is the Williamsburg Campground, an 80-acre retreat that offers a perfect balance of forested seclusion and modern resort amenities. This women-owned, family-run business has been a staple of the local community for over 50 years, evolving from a small campsite into a sprawling 370-site destination. Whether you are a local resident looking for a quick weekend escape or a traveler exploring the Commonwealth's colonial heritage, this campground serves as a welcoming home base that feels like a quiet "small town" hidden within the woods of James City County.
The atmosphere at Williamsburg Campground is specifically designed to provide an escape from the suburban sprawl. Upon leaving the interstate, visitors pass through a brief residential area before entering the heavily wooded 180-acre property. The management makes a conscious effort to maintain the natural, "woodsy" charm of the land, ensuring that campers feel truly immersed in nature. Despite its tranquil setting, the resort is a vibrant community where families reconnect around campfires and children forge new friendships at the various activity centers.
Location and accessibility are among the campground's strongest suits for Virginia residents and visitors alike. Located at 4000 Newman Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188, the site is conveniently positioned near the intersection of I-64 and Route 199. This allows for effortless access to the state's most famous attractions. Residents from Northern Virginia or the Richmond area will find the drive straightforward, while those coming from the Tidewater region can be at their campsite in under an hour. The entrance and parking facilities are designed to be wheelchair accessible, ensuring that the beauty of the Virginia woods is available to all guests.
- Less than 15 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William & Mary.
- Directly accessible to the Virginia Capital Trail for cycling and hiking enthusiasts.
- Short driving distance to Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA.
- Proximity to the Williamsburg Premium Outlets for shopping and dining.
- Convenient for day trips to Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Battlefield.
The services offered at Williamsburg Campground cater to every type of outdoor enthusiast, from traditional tent campers to "big rig" RV owners. The facility is well-known for being big-rig friendly, offering spacious pull-through sites that simplify the setup process for large motorhomes. For those who prefer a more structured stay, the "glamping" options are extensive. Guests can choose from deluxe cabins featuring private bathrooms and kitchenettes or unique yurts that provide a blend of canvas-walled charm and modern comfort. Towels and linens are provided in cabin rentals, and the on-site staff is frequently praised by locals for their "rock star" level of helpfulness, often going above and beyond to assist guests with mechanical issues or site setup.
- Full hookup sites including water, sewer, and 30/50 amp electric service.
- On-site camp store stocked with groceries, propane, firewood, and camping essentials.
- Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and cable TV access across the property.
- Climate-controlled deluxe cabins with kitchenettes, heating, and air conditioning.
- Comprehensive laundry facilities and immaculate bathhouses with hot showers.
- Professional on-site services including trash pickup and escorting guests to their sites.
- Themed weekend activities and planned events for children and families year-round.
The features and highlights of the resort are what truly distinguish it as a "camping resort" rather than a standard campground. The property is packed with recreational infrastructure, including a heated swimming pool and a dedicated splash pad for younger children. For those who enjoy active recreation, the nine-hole disc golf course and the "Gravity Rail" offer unique thrills. Animal lovers will find the park particularly welcoming; not only are there pet-friendly cabins, but the facility also includes a dedicated dog park and a pet wash station to keep four-legged companions clean after a day on the trails.
- Heated outdoor swimming pool and a 1-foot deep kiddie pool and splash pad.
- Two large jumping pillows and a playground for high-energy kid-friendly fun.
- Gated property security and 80 acres of mature trees providing ample shade.
- Extensive nature trails for hiking and geocaching adventures on the property.
- Recreational courts for basketball, volleyball, and GaGa ball.
- Covered pavilion and activity room for group gatherings and community events.
- Premium patio sites featuring brick pavers, outdoor furniture, and fire pits.
For those interested in booking a stay or learning more about seasonal rates, the Williamsburg Campground can be reached through several channels. The front desk is generally staffed during convenient daytime and evening hours to assist with reservations and local tourist information.

What is worth choosing about Williamsburg Campground is its commitment to the "community" aspect of camping. In a world of corporate-owned parks, this women-owned establishment maintains a personal touch that is evident in the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendliness of the staff. It is worth choosing because it provides a "best of both worlds" scenario: you are close enough to hear the whistles of the trains at nearby attractions, yet far enough away to enjoy a silent, star-filled night under a canopy of trees. For families with children, the sheer volume of included activities—from the jumping pillows to the themed princess or superhero weekends—means that the entertainment is built right into the stay.
Additionally, the flexibility of accommodations makes it an ideal choice for varying needs. If you are a seasoned RVer, the level gravel sites and stable power are exactly what you need for a stress-free stay. If you are new to the outdoors, the deluxe cabins provide a "soft entry" into camping with all the comforts of a hotel suite. This versatility, combined with the campground's legacy of five decades of service, makes it a reliable and highly recommended choice for anyone looking to experience the heart of Virginia’s historical and natural beauty.

Customer Reviews
My family stayed in one of the bigger cabins with a bedroom, bunkroom, kitchette with a few dishes, and a bathroom. It had a table and chairs and a small sofa, which was perfect. It was nice, clean and the heat worked very well. We were only there for one night, so didn't use the dishes, since I had brought paper plates and plasticware. The kitchen faucet leaked when you turned it on, so I let them know when we checked out the next day. Towels and linens were provided. We took extra blankets with us, since I get cold. We usually take our camper, but thought it would be nice to rent a cabin. We took our two little dogs and the crate fit perfectly next to the sofa while we were at Busch Gardens. We will definitely rent a cabin again when we come down for just one or two days. It was worth it.
Lovely campground. Wooded sites that are spacious. Everything is immaculate and their camp host George is absolutely amazingly helpful. We had some issues unhitching and he just showed up to help us!!! We then had an issue with one of the windows on our camper and George went and got tools and fixed it for us. All while still leading people to their sites and working so hard. Highly recommend this campground and we will most definitely be returning!!! Oh and George is a rock star!!!!
Traveled with trailer. Excellent customer service. Extremely clean campsite and restrooms. 3 people cleaning restrooms at 1 time, multiple times a day. Frequent trash pickup and kink escort service. We've visited several times here. Always our come to place when visiting Williamsburg.
Our first time at this campground, but we will definitely be back. Depends on what the new owners do before our next trip!! We have had a wonderful stay. The amenities are all in very good condition and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. Of special mention - George K. - an asset to the organization. A return trip is in planning, this time with the family!
Stayed at Williamsburg Campground 8-10 September 2025 lot number E68. Very well maintained Rv camping facility with beautiful spacious lots, mature trees and a whole host of amenities. Very professional staff who were always friendly with a positive demeanor. As for this particular lot, it was listed as a Pull-Thru but anything over 32 feet (as was my motorhome) I’m not too sure it is really sufficient. The embankment exiting the lot may just be too aggressive to facilitate a comfortable turn for a bigger rig and just not sure it would be possible. Discussed possible options with one of the park attendants (Dale?) and he mentions possibly dozing to widen the turn which I believe would work just perfectly. Other than that the lot was very nice and quiet with great shade from all the trees. Keep up the great work team!!
